A colourful history

Over the weekend, I visited a conservation area.

In the 1960s, it was a sleazy red-light district with lots of brothels occupying the three-storey shophouses on both sides of its streets. Now, trendy boutique hotels, cafes, restaurants, galleries and other commercial shops fill its cavities, the past unspoken and untraceable. The area really comes alive at night still, though of course in a rather different way than before.

The buildings really have so much character, and walking the streets here never fails to intrigue me every time.
